Bernice van Wyk

I’m Bernice, and I am a third-year veterinary science student from Lydenburg.

Growing up, I was surrounded by animals, nurturing a deep passion for their well-being. So, when it came time to choose a career path, becoming a vet was a natural choice.

When I didn’t get into vet school on my first try, I didn’t let it deter me, I found new hope with Glencore’s support, which enabled me to secure my spot the next year.

University life and the workload in veterinary science have been intense, but I’ve embraced the challenge. I’ve shadowed veterinarians in Lydenburg, learning about various animal diseases firsthand that has been invaluable to my studies.

Looking ahead, I am excited about the prospect of entering my clinical year. I see myself running my own vet practice one day, catering to both pets and production animals in my hometown. With Glencore by my side, I’m confident in achieving this dream.

My advice to anyone pursuing their dreams is simple: stay passionate and determined.
