Shaping Lindokuhle's future in metallurgy
I’m Lindokuhle Ngwane, a 23-year-old trainee engineer specialising in metallurgy at Glencore Thorncliffe Mine in Steelpoort.
In high school, I dreamed of a career in medicine, never imagining that would change. But when my school introduced me to Glencore’s engineering scholarships, my interest in chemical engineering was piqued. I was fortunate to receive a Glencore sponsorship, opening doors to a new future.
Five years of study, delayed by the pandemic, brought challenges and triumphs. Glencore’s support, covering everything from tuition to a laptop allowance, encouraged me to persevere. As part of Glencore’s graduate programme, I underwent in-service training and, with mentorship, became a metallurgical engineer in training. Each day, I navigate projects, reports, and fieldwork, driven by a desire to excel.
As I journey towards becoming a metallurgist, I’m grateful for the support from my family, community, and colleagues. I am determined to unlock my full potential.
