My name is Thandolwethu Zwane from eMalahleni, and I am a Metallurgy Graduate in Training at Glencore Coal’s Goedgevonden complex. My journey into metallurgy was unexpected, yet it’s become the path I’m deeply passionate about.

Initially, I considered a career in law or psychology, but Glencore’s outreach programme opened my eyes to engineering. This newfound passion led me to Wits University as a Glencore bursar and now a graduate.

Since graduating, I’ve benefited from the programme’s mentorship and coaching - led by experienced professionals and gaining valuable insights into various mining operations and hands-on experience. I’m inspired by the strong women who paved the way before me.

The journey towards a career in metallurgy is challenging, but the rewards are immeasurable.
