Glencore coal celebrates 124 portable skills graduates

Glencore Coal continues to uplift its host communities through initiatives such as the Portable Skills Training Programme, which recently celebrated 124 graduates who successfully completed their training through the programme. This initiative is part of Glencore's ongoing commitment to empowering and upskilling young people in the communities they operate in, equipping them with valuable, practical skills to contribute meaningfully to their futures and the economy.

The ceremony which took place at Kriel on 7 March 2024 and honoured the graduates, hard work, dedication, and determination, recognising their efforts in successfully completing the programme. Glencore, through the Portable Skills Programme, has provided life-changing skills to over 480 participants in 2024, helping them enter the job market or start their own businesses, ultimately benefiting their families and communities in the long run.

Glencore's Community Development Superintendent, Sibusiso Mbebe, said he was proud of the graduates. "It is a privilege to acknowledge these young people for their extraordinary dedication to bettering their futures. By imparting useful skills, we are not only realising the potential of the graduates but also generating chances for them to succeed." The latest graduates completed training in Agriculture, Make-up Application, Nail-Technology, Baking, Carpentry, Sewing, Welding, and Plumbing. 

The training programme was delivered in collaboration with Circleway Training, a facility dedicated to providing practical, industry-relevant skills to young people in Mpumalanga. Glencore remains committed to advancing lives by creating sustainable opportunities that uplift communities, encourage entrepreneurship, and help reduce unemployment.
