The Role
We are seeking expressions of interest from internal candidates for a Control Room Operator to join our team at George Fisher Mine. This is an exciting opportunity to further develop your career in underground mining, working residentially in Mount Isa on a 7 days on, 7 days off continuous shift roster.

Reporting to the Supervisor Control Centre, this role plays a key role in supporting the safe, efficient and coordinated operation of the underground mine. The position works closely with Underground Supervisors, Control Room Operators and other operational teams to maintain accurate, real-time operational information and support the effective execution of the daily production plan.

The role requires a high level of attention to detail, strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate multiple activities in a dynamic operating environment.

Your key responsibilities include: 

  • Capture, monitor and validate operational data through the Helix Dispatch system, ensuring information is accurate, complete and current
  • Monitor and record underground personnel, equipment, locations, activities and operational status throughout the shift
  • Assist Underground Supervisors with the coordination and management of underground personnel, equipment and work priorities
  • Maintain effective radio and system communications with underground personnel, supervisors and relevant departments
  • Identify, investigate and follow up discrepancies, exceptions and missing or inaccurate operational information
  • Provide supervisors with accurate and timely information to support operational decision-making and achievement of the shift plan
  • Support the Shift Supervisor with the effective coordination of production activities and optimisation of mobile fleet performance
  • Complete shift reports, records, handovers and other required documentation accurately and within required timeframes
  • Assist with personnel accountability and communications during emergencies and other abnormal operating conditions
  • Work collaboratively with other Control Room Operators and operational teams to maintain continuity of underground operations
  • Comply with all site safety procedures, operational standards and Control Room requirements

The successful applicants will have:

  • High school diploma or GED 
  • Minimum three years' underground operational experience and/or previous dispatch experience
  • Ability to obtain S1, 2 and 3 qualifications 
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid C Class driver’s licence  
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately.
  • Sound understanding of mining industry practices and safety standards.
  • Ability to undertake specialised training required to operate high-tech systems and equipment
