We are one of the world’s leading marketers of crude oil and oil products, supplying millions of barrels of oil every day to customers around the world

We source crude oil and oil products from a range of suppliers – through our marketing offices in London, New York and Singapore.

To support our business, we have a substantial shipping portfolio and access to a range of logistics, storage and investment capabilities.

We also market natural gas, mostly in Europe.

Through Astron Energy, we are a leading supplier of petroleum products in South Africa, with a vast network of service stations that make us one of the country’s top two petroleum brands. Astron also owns and operates the country’s third-largest crude oil refinery in Cape Town, which has a capacity of 100,000 barrels a day, and a lubricants manufacturing plant in Durban.

Uses of oil

Crude oil is refined into a range of oil products mainly used as fuels – including petrol and diesel for cars, jet fuel, heating oil and liquid petroleum gas (LPG). Derivatives also include asphalt used in roads, wax, and lubricants.

Our assets

We have interests in the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors of the Oil industry with the main assets being the Astron Refinery and downstream distribution business, the Ale Downstream distribution business in Brazil and an interest in the Aquarius Energy portfolio.

The Aquarius Energy portfolio provides petroleum products storage and logistics in the major global trading hubs and strategically important locations across Europe, Africa and the Americas. 

We also have offshore interests in operating fields in Equatorial Guinea as well as interests in Cameroon where significant oil and gas reserves have been discovered both onshore and offshore.
