The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Ground Control Specialist to join our Glencore Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations in Greater Sudbury, Ontario.

The position will be based in Onaping, Greater Sudbury, Ontario. 

This is a full-time, permanent staff position.

Range of Pay: $171,100 to $191,300 (includes annual variable compensation bonus).

This position is being posted to fill an existing vacancy.

Work location is not accessible by public transportation.

Duties and Accountabilities: 

Reporting to the Chief Mine Engineer, the Ground Control Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring ground control systems and programs to ensure the stability of underground workings and support the safe, efficient operation of the mine. The role leads investigations into ground falls and seismic events, provides technical recommendations to site teams, and collaborates with internal and external technical experts to ensure ground control programs reflect engineering best practices and operational requirements.

Education and Skills

The incumbent has an undergraduate degree in mining, civil or geotechnical engineering, with a master’s degree in rock mechanics, and will have a minimum of 12 years’ experience in an industrial, process-based environment, with a minimum of 6 years in a specialized field. Significant practical experience in deep underground mining with rock bursting conditions is essential.

Good communication and mentoring skills with operational credibility to lead site geotechnical teams is essential.

Is expected to be on call on a regular rotation within the Sudbury Ground Control Group.
