Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the operation through mine designs and schedules that are operationally and technically robust and maximise value.

Within the Mid-Term Planning team, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining mine designs, schedules and planning strategies that align operational requirements with the Budget and Life of Mine plan. You will work closely with Production, Short term, Long Term, Drill & Blast and Geology teams to optimise mine performance and support achievement of business targets. You will gain exposure to mine design, haulage optimisation, budgeting and forecasting processes, while building strong working relationships across site.

Professional development is at the core of the Technical Services Team and you will be supported through coaching, mentoring and ongoing opportunities to further develop your technical and leadership capability, with opportunities to progress toward senior technical and leadership roles.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a mining engineer at HVO, you will be responsible for:

  • Being a role model for safety on site.

  • Providing expertise and oversight to optimise mine design and scheduling.

  • Developing and maintaining medium-term mine designs and schedules across a 3 month to 2 year planning horizon.

  • Delivering practical and achievable mine plans that align operational requirements with business objectives.

  • Monitoring plan performance, identifying improvement opportunities and implementing optimisation initiatives.

  • Reconciliation of mine design process and conformance to plan.

  • Review equipment conformance to plan and performance feedback.

  • Promoting and maintaining a high level of positive safety performance and workplace culture through teamwork, personal commitment, and application of the company values.

  • Based on site at HVO

ABOUT YOU

  • A commitment to the best practice of health, safety environment and community at all times

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining or Civil Engineering (or demonstrated practical experience)

  • Preferred 5 years’ experience as a Mining Engineer within open cut coal mining, with previous experience within a short term or medium-term planning environment.

  • Experience developing mine designs and schedules using mining software such as Vulcan, Deswik and/or Spry.

  • A desire to continue developing your technical capability and take the next step in your mining engineering career.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify practical improvement opportunities.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build effective working relationships across departments.

  • Ability to prioritise competing deadlines and work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.

  • Solid understanding of mine planning principles, equipment capabilities and operational constraints.

  • Computer literacy in standard systems such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook etc.

  • Providing practical solutions when providing planning advice.

  • Experience with Vulcan, Deswik, Spry, FMS, MinVu or other CAD software would be desirable

  • Ability to work both autonomously and within a team environment.
