Investment in education infrastructure for long-term community growth
In June 2015, Glencore officially handed over the Makause Combined School in Phola, Mpumalanga, to the Department of Basic Education, delivering a modern, fully equipped learning facility as part of our long standing commitment to improving infrastructure and strengthening education in our host communities.
Built at a cost of R75 million, the school serves learners from pre-primary through to secondary level, features 32 classrooms, science laboratories, technical workshops, a library, computer centre and a 1,200-seater hall.
These facilities create a safe, inspiring and well-resourced environment that enables quality teaching and learning. The Makause Combined School stands as a testament to Glencore’s commitment to partnering with government to strengthen education infrastructure, support community development and open pathways for future generations to thrive.
