The Steelpoort Bridge Construction project

The Steelpoort Bridge Construction project is a collaborative initiative led by Glencore-Merafe, together with local government, the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, and neighbouring mining companies, to enhance safety and accessibility in Ga-Malekane.

The project includes the rehabilitation of the historic 1926 single-lane steel bridge, alongside the construction of a new, modern bridge designed to accommodate increasing traffic volumes. This combined approach preserves local heritage while meeting future transport and mobility needs.

The upgraded infrastructure provides a safer, more efficient and reliable travel experience for surrounding communities and supports regional economic development, including growth linked to the Tubatse Special Economic Zone. This project further underscores our commitment to community wellbeing and the development of sustainable, resilient infrastructure that delivers long-term benefit to our host communities
