As the world moves towards a low-carbon economy, we are focused on supporting the energy needs of today whilst investing in our portfolio of transition-enabling commodities.

In collaboration with Coaltech, a research association that investigates projects and applications of technologies to promote sustainable coal mining in South Africa, Glencore Coal South Africa (GCSA) are exploring low-carbon technologies and processes aimed at reducing Scope 3 emissions.

Glencore's partnership with Coaltech in their Future Technologies focus area represents a deliberate step in dealing with Scope 3 emissions, which accounts for approximately 98% of Glencore Coal South Africa's total emissions that arise primarily from the end-use combustion of coal in power generation.

In addition to other projects, GCSA supports the development and deployment of High-Efficiency, Low-Emissions (HELE) technologies that aim to improve the efficiency of coal-fired power stations thereby reducing CO? per megawatt-hour.
