Building supplier capacity through early engagement

We engaged with a potential supplier, while its project was in its development phase with limited sustainability governance systems and a newly formed in-country team. As a prerequisite to providing products to Glencore, we required the supplier to establish the necessary governance, processes and activities to meet the expectations and requirements set out in our Supplier Code of Conduct.

We provided substantial guidance in the design of the supplier’s KYC programme and related ESG governance framework and reviewed their Human Rights Policy.

Our collaboration helped to embed governance and compliance processes early in the supplier’s operational lifecycle. We continue to work with this supplier to enhance its local capacity and strengthen its alignment with the expectations set out in the OECD DDG.
