The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Major Capital Projects Accountant to join our Glencore Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations in Greater Sudbury, Ontario.

The position will be based in Falconbridge, Greater Sudbury, Ontario.

This is a full-time, contract position, up to two years with the possibility of extension.

Work location is not accessible by public transportation.

Duties and Accountabilities: 

Reporting to the Management Accounting Controller, Sudbury Operations, the Major Capital Project (MCP) Accountant is a key member of the MCP Owner’s Team accountable for supporting the successful, accurate and timely completion of project accounting and financial data for all Major Capital Projects which includes Onaping Depth Project, and other qualifying projects.  This role is responsible for recommending and implementing efficiency improvements, ensuring the accuracy of financial and management reporting, controls and systems related to accounting and ensuring project team members receive required training on systems and controls.

The MCP Accountant will work in close association with personnel from all departments within Sudbury Operations, as well as the Nickel Corporate head office, Nickel Capital Control Group, Glencore head office personnel, and other external to fulfill their responsibilities.

Education and Skills

  • The position requires a University Degree/College Diploma in Business.
  • A good understanding of mining process and possesses strong business skills from identification to resolution of issues with 10 or more years’ experience in industry working through increasing levels of responsibility.
  • A recognized accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) will be considered an advantage.
  • Requires effective and proactive problem-solving skills, conflict management and resolution skills with a variety of stakeholders extending from Sudbury Operations Senior Management Team through to plant and mine personnel.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills are required to work effectively with all stakeholders. Proven negotiation and influencing skills as well as the ability to identify, recommend and implement cost effective efficiencies to improve overall operational performance.
  • The individual must have strong interpersonal skills, be a change agent and be able to easily conceptualize ideas and communicate these effectively to others in a professional manner.
  • Must have excellent computer skills (SAP, Microsoft Office, Coupa).
  • Presentation skills are also essential.
