Mount Isa Mines are currently advertising Mechanical Engineer vacancy that exists in the Maintenance team.   This role is residentially based in Mount Isa, working a 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off - 9 hour shift roster.

About the role

Reporting to the Superintendent – Engineering and Asset Strategy this role is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and effective delivery of Mechanical Engineering functions across the operation. You will provide technical leadership, collaborate across disciplines, and contribute to the delivery of high?quality operational outcomes.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver safe, efficient and high?quality mechanical engineering outcomes across GFM operations.
  • Lead and manage mechanical improvement projects, from scope development through to execution.
  • Support the safe and successful delivery of capital, sustaining and asset?improvement projects.
  • Perform engineering calculations to ensure safe and effective component designs and upgrades.
  • Undertake options analysis and planning to define improvement scopes for critical assets.
  • Coordinate design, tendering and delivery phases of mechanical work packages and programs.
  • Manage contractor and supplier performance for mechanical engineering activities.
  • Apply robust engineering governance including project structures, controls, risk management and reporting.
  • Provide technical advice to maintenance, operations and planning teams on equipment performance.
  • Contribute to shutdown planning, execution support and post?shutdown review activities.
  • Support asset strategy through condition monitoring inputs and long?term equipment improvement plans.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching and visible leadership to ensure standards and procedures are understood and followed.

 

About you – skills and experience:

You will bring

  • Degree qualifications in Mechanical Engineering (or similar discipline).
  • Experience working in underground mining, heavy industry, or complex industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated capability delivering mechanical engineering projects or asset improvement work.
  • Strong understanding of project management principles (PMBoK, PRINCE2, or similar).
  • Proven ability to analyse equipment performance, diagnose issues and propose engineered solutions.
  • Experience coordinating design, tendering, procurement and contractor engagement activities.
  • Ability to work across multiple disciplines and partner with operations, planning and maintenance teams.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, influencing and negotiation skills.
  • High?level analytical, problem?solving and critical thinking capability.
  • A proactive, self?driven working style with strong focus on safety and continuous improvement.
