 Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

KCC SA exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, open-pit mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest copper reserves in the world, with a current life of over 25 years.

Job Description

 

The purpose of Principal Mining Technology Projects is responsible for leading strategic technology initiatives across the copper mining operations in the region. The position is responsible for driving the ideation, development, and execution of fleet-related mining technology projects, aligning with the company’s Next Generation Fleet (NGF) strategy. This role supports both regional and site-level teams in the implementation of automation, digitalization, and analytics solutions to improve fleet efficiency, operational excellence, and long-term business value.

 

He/She will have, among other things, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive list):

 

Strategic Technology Program Leadership

  • Lead the conceptualization, planning, and delivery of mining fleet technology initiatives, from idea generation to feasibility and implementation.
  • Align all projects with the broader Next Generation Fleet (NGF) and Operational Excellence strategy.

Engagement & Asset Collaboration

  • Engage closely with operational sites and functional leads to ensure technology initiatives meet operational needs and timelines.
  • Support asset teams in the development of site-specific Fleet Technology Roadmaps and implementation pathways.

Consultant and Contractor Management

  • Prepare detailed scopes of work for third-party service providers and consultants.
  • Lead tendering, bid evaluation, award processes, and manage day-to-day delivery of services from contractors and vendors.

Business Case Development

  • Lead the financial and operational analysis required to support investment in new mining technologies.
  • Develop robust business cases, ROI analysis, and risk assessments for executive decision-making.

Project Execution & Monitoring

  • Coordinate project tasks across multiple sites and internal stakeholders to ensure delivery on schedule, scope, and budget.
  • Prepare detailed project reports, dashboards, and performance tracking against key milestones and KPIs.

Technology Implementation

  • Oversee the pilot and full-scale deployment of automated fleet systems, including autonomous haulage and digital fleet management platforms.
  • Implement analytics platforms for fleet productivity monitoring, time usage modelling, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) improvements.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for improvement in fleet operations through data analysis, benchmarking, and field validation.
  • Drive innovation by evaluating emerging technologies and trends relevant to open-pit mining operations.

 

Job Requirements 


Qualifications and experience

 

•    Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering (required).
•    Postgraduate qualifications in Engineering, Project Management, or Business/Management Sciences (desirable).
•     Minimum 5 years of experience in the mining industry in roles related to operations, technology implementation, project management, or maintenance.
•    Proven experience in technology strategy development and execution, preferably in large-scale open-pit mining operations.
•    Demonstrated experience in change management, risk assessment, and project lifecycle management.
•    Financial analysis experience related to capital projects and investment planning (desirable).
•    Experience in deploying or supporting digital fleet management systems, automation, or mining analytics platforms is a strong advantage.
