Job DescriptionWe are seeking a highly skilled Senior Medium Term Planning Engineer to join our dynamic team at our large-scale open cut coal mining operation. This pivotal role will be responsible for developing and managing medium term mine plans that align with long term strategy and short term execution requirements.
You’ll play a key role in optimising resource recovery, supporting operational excellence, and collaborating across multiple departments to deliver cost effective and practical mine plans.

Develop, maintain, and communicate medium-term mine plans (3–12 months horizon).

Liaise with short term planners, geologists, and operations teams to ensure plan alignment and feasibility.

Integrate environmental, safety, and operational considerations into mine plans.

Use mine planning software to generate pit designs, dump scheduling, and haulage analysis.

Identify opportunities to improve mine productivity and reduce costs.

Prepare reports and present planning updates to management and stakeholders.

Mentor and lead junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
ABOUT YOU
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline.

Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in open cut coal mining, with a focus on mine planning.

Proficiency in mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, or similar).

Strong understanding of mine scheduling, design, and cost estimation.

Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.

Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience

This role is a wonderful opportunity for you no matter your circumstance. You will have the option to either live locally in one of the communities that surround our operation or stay on site in our amazing village. We are only a one and quarter hour drive from the beautiful Mackay hinterland and a two- and half-hour drive from Airlie Beach and the Whitsunday Islands and have a diverse group of people at our operation commuting from multiple locations in Queensland such as Rockhampton and Townsville, to name a few. The Successful candidate will have the option to work a compressed 9 day-fortnight flexible work arrangement.
