The role of DevOps engineer sits within the IT Tooling team and will suit an experienced DevOps engineer who has a strong technical skillset. Working as part of the IT Tooling team, the successful candidate will liaise with other developers and IT professionals to assess, design and implement tools and bespoke solutions intended to improve the overall quality and productivity of the IT department.

This position will have a strong operational focus. We are essentially a DevOps team but we do also look after some non-DevOps tools so a curious mind and ability to pick up new concepts is what we are seeking.

The ideal candidate disposes of:

  • Design and development of high quality DevOps solutions as part of a dedicated Kanban team, working closely fellow team members and other IT professionals
  • 2nd and 3rd line support of DevOps solutions that require remediation and or bug fixes
  • Contribution to creation of overall DevOps strategy and architecture
  • Creation of DevOps epics and stories in response to overall IT needs
  • Lead small and medium sized projects as required, co-ordinating other internal and external resources and ensuring key goals are met
  • Contribute to development and creation of appropriate test cases – both manual and automated – in support of DevOps deliveries
  • Contribution to the development and implementation of IT best practices within the department

 

Skills:

  • Aptitude, research and application is vital
  • Dynamism with ability to turn hand to anything and everything
  • Development skillset with knowledge of PowerShell. SQL and C# or other experience would be useful
  • Excellent understanding of core IT Applications disciplines
  • Excellent knowledge of a wide range of DevOps techniques and tools used to support the IT landscape
  • Strong analytic skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent team player
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Delivery and customer focused: delivers every time to high standards – time, quality, efficiency and value
  • A good general understanding of Windows / Linux, servers, networks, firewalls etc. is highly beneficial

  • Educated to Degree standard (or equivalent)
  • Experience in working within a DevOps team or in an environment where DevOps techniques are widely employed
  • Experience working with tools and techniques associated with the IT development landscape
  • Particular knowledge of the following would be very desirable:
  • Kubernetes
  • ActiveBatch
  • GitHub including Workflows / Actions
  • Octopus Deploy
  • Artifactory
  • Atlassian toolset (Jira, Confluence)
